Grade Moderation

Moderation of grades is a quality assurance system designed and implemented by the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies (ACTBSSS). It ensures system-wide comparability of grades on the ACT Year 12 Certificate.

It is designed to:

• provide comparability of grades in the system of school-based assessment
• form the basis for valid and reliable assessment in senior secondary schools  
• maintain the quality of school-based assessment and the credibility, validity and acceptability of grades on the ACT Year 12 Certificate

The BSSS has published a brochure, entitled "What's Moderation?"  The brochure provides an overview of the grade moderation process.
