Course Development

A five year cycle exists for course development.  This ensures that all courses are reviewed regularly to allow for future developments in curriculum while providing for the changing needs of the students.  The document Course Framework and Development shows the timetable for 2007-2011 for all courses in the ACT Education System.

The document,  Guidelines for the Development and Accreditation of Courses 2007/2008,  provides full details of the current practices and procedures teachers must follow in developing courses and the process for having them accredited.

Course documents are based on the appropriate Course Frameworks. Courses are proposed and developed for accreditation by colleges. Course developers are responsible for detailing the content, student capabilities and teaching/learning strategies that implement the goals and promote student achievement within identified areas of knowledge and skill.

Courses in the ACT are classified as either Type 1 or Type 2. A Type 1 course has been developed by a single college. A Type 2 course has been developed by a group of colleges.

All courses need to be adopted by a college before they can be taught.
